Garden Teach Students About Hard Work and the Food that they Eat
The best part about working in a garden, said Morse High School junior Reginald Paragas, is planting seedlings in the ground. "It's sort of like you started it. It's your responsibility to take care of it."
The worst part? That would be the worm droppings.
"i'm just not a big fan of worms. The smell of it is immensely horrendous," Reginald, 16, said of the droppings, which are used as plant food. Read the News Release

Party in the Garden
By Kelly Healy. This summer marked an especially busy time in the garden at Rosa Parks Elementary School. Not only was the garden bursting with colorful fruits and vegetables, but it was also the host of a special Garden Party. June 22nd marked the kick off of the San Diego Women’s Foundation Summer SnapShot Series. Members of the group took the opportunity to see first hand the success of the Rosa Parks Garden, one of the many projects they have supported.Read the News Release

Community Leader Carol Chang Installed as President of The San Diego Women’s Foundation
The San Diego Women’s Foundation welcomes new President Carol Chang to head its Board of Directors for 2007/2008. The installation occurred at the SDWF’s annual celebration June 5 at the Salk Institute. Six new community partners were there to receive $239,000 to fund programs promoting nutritional access in the San Diego community. More than 230 SDWF members and guests attended to mark the foundation’s sixth year and $1.3 million awarded to date toward an improved community. Read the News Release

The San Diego Women’s Foundation Presents $ 239,000 to Seven New Community Partners
The San Diego Women’s Foundation awarded $239,000 to seven new community partners at their Annual Grants Celebration held last night at the Salk Institute. Over 230 SDWF members and guests were there to recognize the new 2007 Community Partners, as they will now be regarded. Each of these organizations met this year’s appeal for promoting community nutrition and access to healthy food to vulnerable populations in a meaningful, sustainable and significant way.
