The San Diego Women’s Foundation Presents $239,000 to Seven New Community Partners

Organizations will use funds to improve community’s access to nutritious foods.

San Diego – June 6, 2007 – The San Diego Women’s Foundation awarded $239,000 to seven new community partners at their Annual Grants Celebration held last night at the Salk Institute. Over 230 SDWF members and guests were there to recognize the new 2007 Community Partners, as they will now be regarded. Each of these organizations met this year’s appeal for promoting community nutrition and access to healthy food to vulnerable populations in a meaningful, sustainable and significant way.

Awardees were Jewish Family Services, $44,000 for “Youth Food Pantry”; La Maestra Family Clinic, $25,000 for “Healthy Food Choices”; Meals on Wheels – Greater San Diego, $40,000 for “Meals 4 Seniors”; Morse High School, $31,500 for “Terra Nova Academy Seeds of Leadership”; San Diego Hunger Coalition, $25,000 for “Food Stamp Task Force”; Senior Community Centers, $38,500 for “Senior Nutrition Program”’ and Vista Hill Parent Care Center, $35,000 for “ParentCare Mother Hubbard’s Cupboard Project”.

“We reviewed the work of so many promising programs but our members found these groups to have a potential impact that demands our support,” said SDWF President, Alicia Foster. “I am so proud to be part of this organization and the work we do for the community of San Diego.” This event marked the end of Foster’s term as President. Carol Chang was installed for the coming year.

Each year the San Diego Women’s Foundation enters a process of review for grants in specific interest areas which include Arts and Culture, Civil Society, Economic and Employment Development, Education, Health and Human Services, and Environment. SDWF’s upcoming focus will be Civil Society with a narrowed field that is yet to be determined.
