How SDWF Works

Membership

SDWF members contribute $2,500 or $1,250 per year (based on their giving capacity) and we pool those resources to make grants into the San Diego region.

Focused grantmaking

Our grants always benefit underserved communities in San Diego County. Each year our members select one specific funding priority, which is based on extensive research and always reflects critical community needs.

One member, one vote

Our process is democratic. Each member has an equal vote in our final funding decisions.

Savvy philanthropy

We strive to lead the way in effective philanthropy. Our grants process adheres to best practices that help nonprofits be successful. We proudly fund staffing and administrative costs, which we know are vital to the success of life-changing nonprofit programs.

Shared learning

SDWF members come together to learn about critical community issues and how to be effective changemakers. We provide training and educational programming year-round.

Community partnership

Our impact doesn’t stop when we write the check. We stay in touch with our nonprofit partners, and we use our platforms to lift up their work and impact.
