New board member and Senior Wealth Strategist Helena Xu took some time out of her busy schedule so that we could get to know her a bit better through "5 Questions With Helena Xu"
- What is your idea of perfect happiness?
My friend and I have monthly dates at Souplantation and we often talk for so long that the staff will need to tell us they're closing up. Moments where you're laughing so hard you're in tears and 30 min magically turns to 3 hrs, that’s happiness.
- Tell us one surprising fact about you:
I was once part of a start-up team focused on creating diagnostic applications to detect malaria. The project took us around the world and was a huge learning experience. We eventually all pursued other goals, but it taught me a lot about how small ideas can lead to global change.
- Who are your heroes in real life?
My mentor at work—she embodies the balance of possessing both grit and grace, and has really been a leader in a male dominated industry.
- What’s the most courageous thing you’ve ever done?
I solo backpacked through Europe when I was in college….without a smart phone!
- Why is SDWF membership meaningful to you?
It's a gift to live in San Diego. It's an even more tremendous privilege to meet those in sectors that understand the specific needs within San Diego and focus their talent and energy in contributing and bettering the community.
Helena, we are so lucky to have you on our board! Thank you for all that you do for SDWF and the community.
